You’ve heard it time and again – breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And there is a lot of truth to that as our bodies are often craving calories and nutrients after a long night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast is the most effective way to jump start our day (and our metabolic system). The Path to wellness is not easy, it takes work and dedication, but if you want to change a single thing about your routine then read below to learn how re-configuring your approach to breakfast can lead to big changes.
Rule #1. Don’t skip breakfast
For the sake of redundancy let’s say it again: starving your body is not the way to accomplish long-term sustainable changes in body composition. Not to mention it’s going to adversely impact your mood, energy and mental focus – it’s really a losing proposition.
Rule #2. Avoid the cereal aisle
While there are certainly some cereals that have made great progress in the world of nutrition, by and large they are a blight upon our efforts to look, feel and perform better. The combination of processing and the
unholy trinity of salts, sugars and fat cause the cereal aisle to fall short only to soda in the adverse impacts it can have on our well-being. In fact, if you suffer from a lack of energy or focus during the day, then your breakfast may be to blame.
Rule #3. Create a nutrient dense meal
Fortunately, there are plenty of things that are loaded with nutrients that taste a whole lot better than cereal to boot (once your body gets over its sugar addiction, anyhow). Eggs are a nutritional powerhouse – and don’t believe what people may have told you, the yolk is fine in moderation. Fresh fruit is especially good if you’re a regular athlete, as fruit will help you to maintain your glycogen stores. And you can never go wrong with a medley of vegetables. As a rule, as long as you stick to avoiding your processed grains and manage your sugar intake then you’re off to a good start.
Rule #4. Take two minutes to make a shake
Shakes, with fresh fruit, almond butter, non-fat milk and a scoop of your WellPath Solution are just about the best thing you can do for your body. And they taste a good deal better than the sugar and fat laden shakes from the fast food chains. It’s ideal for those of us trying to lose a few pounds, and supplementing your regular breakfast with it can serve as an asset to those trying to put on muscle as well. Also, preparing a shake takes less time and it is far more portable than is just about any other alternative.
Rule #5. Don’t neglect to take vitamins, probiotics and digestive enzymes
This rule is especially true in the cases where you’re away from the comfort of your home and perhaps
are not able to make a nutrient dense healthy meal like you usually would. While your supplements will never replace a healthy diet they can help shore up some deficiencies. Further, probiotics and digestive enzymes will help your digestive system function better and as a result better absorb all the nutrients that you’ve been so mindful to consume each morning.
We tell people to approach changes in steps. Cold turkey may work to quit smoking, but telling someone to change their entire diet is an even more challenging proposition. Instead we advocate first changing one meal – you’ll be amazed at how much that enables you to reach your wellness goals.
