5 of the Weirdest Workout Trends Dominating the Fitness Scene Right Now

With all the fitness crazes around these days, working out doesn’t have to be a chore (we know some of you would rather hand wash a sink full of day old dishes than workout on a treadmill). There are now so many fun and creative ways to get into shape that will make you want to jump out of bed every day and squeezing in a pre-work workout. Check out five of the weirdest workout trends dominating the fitness scene right now. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can start doing a few of these in the next five minutes!

Planks are so 2016. This year it’s all about crawling. No, seriously, crawling. The activity, which we would sooner associate with a baby than a gym class, could be the restorative exercise that helps you enhance your health, increase your strength, and improve your mobility while burning up to a 1000 calories an hour.

Don’t be fooled: crawling is harder than it looks (what you did at 2 years old may not be as easy when you are 32).  It takes some core action in order to make this move work. By crawling on your knees or positioning yourself one to two inches off the ground, you’ll strengthen your core muscle groups and get the body you’ve been sweating – or, at least, are about to sweat – for.

What if you could dance in public like no one was watching? Well, it makes it easier to do all of your famed mirror moves when the lights are off. When you participate in this fun, dance-inspired fitness class, Clubbercise, it’s like you’re going to a club without all the pressure to look like supermodel Gisele Bundchen or dance like Beyoncé. The darkened room, disco lights, and glow sticks create a judgment-free zone that allows you to move freely to 90s-inspired music. Take your friends and have a nighttime calorie-burning blast! You’ll burn 500 calories and have the time of your life – without someone questioning your sobriety.

Cycle Karaoke

Have you ever thought about working out your vocal chords during a spin class? The fun movement experts at Crunch fitness have! When you combine the quick cardio infused moves on a bike with the sounds of karaoke, you get Cycle Karaoke –the sweetest tune you’ll hear while you tone! You’ll stretch and warm up to prepare your body and voice for your grand debut. The more singing and dancing you do, the more you’ll realize the improvement in your breathing pattern while building your strength and endurance.

Kangoo Jumps

Ever found yourself yawning from boredom trying to entertain yourself on the stationary workout machines? Same. But fitness doesn’t have to be so dull. Here is one exercise that will have you hopping all over the gym – literally. Kangoo jumps are inspired by the cardio intensive movement of kangaroos, allowing you to expedite the fat-burning process and improve your balance all at once.

Just strap on your kangaroo-approved dance shoes and start bouncing around. Sure, you might feel a bit foolish but your body will feel great after burning 25 to 50 percent more calories during your workout, mostly thanks to the resistance bands attached to the bottom of the shoe. Plus, you’ll get the killer calves that you’ve been looking for.

If you’ve been skipping your gym workout due to exhaustion, here’s a class that is guaranteed to rejuvenate you. With napercise, there’s no sweat required, no dynamic stretches, and no equipment – just rows of single beds waiting on you to jump in. During the one-hour class, you’ll get roughly 15 minutes of stretching and 45 minutes of snoozing at the ideal room temperature (Let’s just say goodbye, elliptical. I’ll think about you in my dreams.)

It may sound too good to be true to many exercise antagonists, but the David Lloyd Clubs’ company website suggests that this workout will “reinvigorate the mind, improve moods, and even burn the odd calorie.” Yeah, you can vaunt to your friends that you’re taking fitness to another level in 2017 – you just have to go to the U.K. in order to test drive this new fitness craze.
