3 Ways to Use Ginger in Your Regular Beauty Routine

While the most regimented beauty routines have their staples and essentials, it’s always nice to change things up by infusing new products into your routine. And it’s even better when the additions you throw into the mix are all-natural ingredients that come with a host of their own built-in beautifying properties. Take, for example, ginger. While the ingredient is more likely to conjure up thoughts of sushi and spicy tea, you may not have realized that it can also have a number of positive effects on your skin and hair. Here, we’ve rounded up three of the best ways to use ginger in your beauty routine so that you can spice – quite literally – things up.

Use it as a toner.

At this point, you may already know of plenty natural ingredients that you can use as a basic toner, like apple cider vinegar, for example. And now, you can add ginger to the mix. Not only does the ingredient improve skin tone, increase skin elasticity, and fight sings of aging, but it can also help reduce the appearance of scars and hyperpigmentation. To make your own toner, just combine about 3/4 cup of fresh ginger juice with one tbsp. each of honey and lemon juice. Then, just gently dab the mixture onto your face using a cotton ball or pad.

Use it as a massage oil.

In oil form, ginger can work wonders when it comes to warming up your body naturally, and providing relief from aches, pain, and tension as a result. Applied topically, ginger oil can also help regulate healthy blood circulation. To create a soothing, relaxing massage oil using ginger oil, combine the ingredient with other oils, like almond oil and rose oil. Use equal parts of each oil – say about 1/4 cup each – and combine in a jar, and then you’re mixture will be ready to go.

Use it as a hair growth treatment.

Because it has the power to boost circulation, when applied to your scalp, ginger can work wonders on stimulating hair growth. Plus, thanks to its rich content of antioxidants, vitamins, and fatty acids, ginger will also make for healthier, as opposed to just longer, hair. (Think much stronger tresses, better texture, and less hair loss.) To make your own pre-shampoo scalp treatment using ginger, combine about 4 tbsp. of fresh ginger juice with 4 tbsp. of jojoba oil. Then, massage the treatment into your scalp gently and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes before rinsing out thoroughly and washing your hair as usual.
